Leather Chair / April 29, 2018 / Charity Chapman
The best quality chairs are made of full grain leather which is extremely durable, looks and feels natural and it has noticeable markings from the skin of the animal. The somewhat lower grade is called a 'corrected grain leather' and this type has undergone a bit of buffing and sanding to correct any imperfections before making the chair. Don't get me wrong, both styles are very popular and they are high quality material, however if you really don't want to spend all your money on something exotic, you can easily by the second grade chairs without feeling any worse in sitting in such a chair in comparison with sitting in a full grain leather chair.
Another type of these chairs that many people love is one made from buckskin leather. This is made from 100% deer skin which is first treated then soaked in a solution made of wood, ash and lime before being ready for the upholstering process. Things made from buckskin leather are known to be very soft, supple and water-resistant and just exactly what you need for a combination of comfort and aesthetics. Yet another type of leather being used by many chair manufacturers is that which is chrome-tanned. This type is also known to be less elastic than vegetable-tanned leather. It is also a lot less expensive than other leather types and it dyes very well. One way of telling this type of leather is to check its edges. When they're gray, the leather used is probably chrome-tanned.
